Despite chilly and -- early on -- wet weather, hundreds of Pensacolians are taking to the streets tonight for the Pensacola Pelican Drop.
The giant, glittering bird rose above Palafox Place at 8 p.m. Tuesday following an afternoon of activities for children and families in an area near the main stage.
The evening features live music on the main stage at Palafox Place and Government Street, including saxophonist Antoine Knight and party band Mojeaux, and on the GoPensacola.com stage on Palafox Place just south of Garden Street, with local bands including Timberhawk and Dew Pendleton & UR Friends.
A third stage in front of the T.T. Wentworth Museum features the teen-friendly Pelican Glow party with DJ Safeko, coloful neon, light shows and break dancers.
The evening will culminate at midnight, bringing in 2014 with the Pelican's descent among a massive fireworks display.
All Pelican Drop events are free.
