With the holidays upon us now is the time to stop in Seville’s Gift Shop for all your wine and bourbon gifts. We have a bunch of new arrivals along with our old standbys available in all price ranges.

I have been waiting for the 2013 Tessellae Old Vines to hit the shop for awhile. Well it is here, and it is smoking good! The wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from the South of France in Roussillon made by the Lafage Family. This is the highest rated we have in the shop for under $15. Wine critic Robert Parker gave this wine 94 points which is un heard of for a wine in this price range. This seductive wine is full of dark fruits, spring flowers and mineralny. This wine is aged in the traditional concrete thanks rather than oak delivering a medium bodied wine that is pure and elegant. Totally over delivers for $14.49.

If you’re looking for a tasty Chardonnay for the holidays that’s balanced, has a touch of oak to it, then look for the 2013 Byrun Chardonnay from Santa Barbara, California ($13.99). It has all the good things you want in a Chardonnay...notes of apples, vanilla and cream all well integrated and totally yummy!

You’ve got to have something sparkly for the holidays and we came across a new one at last month’s French Wine Dinner. The Domaine Rossier Blanquette de Limoux tastes like French Champagne at a third of it’s price ($15.99). Actually, Blanquette de Limoux is the first sparkling wine produced in France long before the monks in Champange. Another bargain from the South of France near the Eastern foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains. A fantastic sparkling to ring in the new year!

We will be getting our Pappy Van Winkle bourbon allocation shortly and just as years past, we will be selling it by the glass in the Palace Cafe. I would rather make a lot of people happy and get to experience Pappy than a few trophy hunters latching on a reselling them. A new whiskey to hit the shop is from noted wine maker Dave Phinney of Orin Swift Cellars, and the whiskey is called “Slaughter House.” This is a big “in your face” style of whiskey, which is just how he makes his wines. In fact, this whiskey, after being ages nine years, is finished another year in his barrels that used to contain his Papillon Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lastly, we can’t forget beer! Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout hit Seville on Black Friday. We get one keg and one case of 16.9 ounce bottles. Only four other accounts in our area receive this rare stout and this year’s version clocks in at 14.5% alcohol! It is served in snifters for $8 in End O’The Alley or can latch on to a bottle in the Gift Shoppe for $13.99.

Lot’s of cool Christmas and New Year’s ideas in the Wine and Gift Shoppe! Come in and see Darina, Marina and Tess for more recommendations. Cheers!
