Tastemakers, Sept. 12 and 13

September's newcomer on the food event menu is Tastemaskers, which the Pensacola News Journal will present in cooperation with 12 downtown Pensacola restaurants from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13.

Tastemakers takes the tradition of a pub crawl and applies it to restaurants, offering a culinary trip around the world without leaving downtown Pensacola.

For $20, participants can purchase a passport at any participating restaurant that will entitle the bearer to an international food tasting and paired adult beverage at each of the restaurants.

The participating restaurants are Seville Quarter, Hopjacks Pizza Kitchen and Taproom, The Tin Cow, Pot Roast & Pinot, Type by Chef Blake Rushing, Four Seasons Catering & Eatery, Shux Oyster Bar, Ever'man Cooperative Grocery & Cafe, The Happy Pig Cafe, World of Beer, Mackey's Mudhouse & Grille and Pensacola Cooks Kitchen (at the PNJ's new downtown offices). The 12 recipes will offer food and drinks inspired by 10 different native cuisines: Italy, Mexico, Acadiana, Germany, Greece, France, Hungary, Jamaica, Bhutan and the U.S.

Trolley service by Five Flags Trolley Co. will make it easy to get around, with stops in front of the PNJ's new headquarters at 2 N. Palafox St.; Seville Quarter, 130 E. Government St.; Ever'man Cooperative Grocery & Cafe, 315 W. Garden St.; Type by Chef Blake Rushing at duh, 501 N. Ninth Ave.; Pot Roast & Pinot, 321 E. Cervantes St.; and The Happy Pig Cafe, 200 S. Alcaniz St. Just show your passport to catch a ride.

Your passport also has a couple of other benefits. Through the end of September, it will act as a VIP dining card at the participating restaurants, offering discounts and specials.

It also gets you into the after-party at Seville Quarter starting at 10 p.m. each night, with $3 Three Olives drinks on Sept. 12 and $3 Sailor Jerry drinks on Sept. 13.

Additional information is online at www.pnj.com/tastemakers, and keep in mind that if you're going to buy a passport, you'll need cash — no other methods of payment will be accepted.
