Rosie O’Grady’s building earns Golden Brick Award
Oct. 4, 2011
Rosie O’Grady’s Inc. of Pensacola received the 2011 Golden Brick Award from the Pensacola Downtown Improvement Board for the company’s restoration of its 110-year-old warehouse, located at 10 S. Tarragona St.
Rosie O’Grady’s Inc. is the parent company of the Seville Quarter entertainment complex on Government Street.
“It was deteriorating in the corners,‘’ said Buck Mitchell, whose family owns and operates the company. "We firmed it up and made some improvements. But we wanted to keep the historic aspects of the building. We didn’t change the building at all.’’
Mitchell said the company has spent about $70,000 over the past 12 months restoring the building.
The Golden Brick Award is given annually to recognize significant building improvement projects that enhance downtown Pensacola. Last year’s winner was the Saenger Theatre. The award has been given for more than 20 years.
“This building was in such bad shape,‘’ said Kim Kimbrough, the Downtown Improvement Board’s executive director. "The Mitchell family went in and replaced a number of wooden historic doors that they had custom made. They brought in new appropriate-period windows. It’s a unique building, and it’s the introduction to the Historic District.’’
Other buildings that were renovated and improved received Silver Certificates from theDIB:
» Polonza Bistro, 286 N. Palafox St.
» Winston E. Arnow Federal Building, 100 N. Palafox St.
» Elebash Jewelry Co., 36 S. Palafox Place
