Bill Vilona,

The weather is cooling. The competitive running season is heating up.

The first event of the fall season is for a special cause in Saturday's Pensacola Seafood Festival Don McCloskey 5K. The event honors McCloskey, a former Naval aviator, who remained an active, inspiring leader in Pensacola's running community until his death in 2011.

The race course traverses past the Community Maritime Park, Pensacola Bayfront, the Veterans Park and Seville Square. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Tarragona and Government Street. A post race party will follow at Seville Quarter.

The event has been a popular addition to the annual Pensacola Seafood Festival in Seville Square. Late registration is available online or at the packet pickup on Friday at Seville Quarter from 3-7 p.m.

Further information is available online or by contacting Charles Gheen at 380-0741.
