Spanish Dinner Kicks Off Bull Run Weekend

OK, it’s highly unlikely anyone’s going to lose life and limb during Saturday’s Running of the Bulls, considering the “bulls” are roller derby girls. Don’t get me wrong, I know a few who can hip-check you into next week, but since they’ll only be armed with whiffle ball bats and the like, I’m pretty sure you’re tough enough to take your licks.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t kick of “Fiesta de San Fermin en Pensacola” without a truly fine meal, and that’s exactly what Executive Chef Brandon Melton is cooking up for Thursday’s Spanish Wine Dinner.

The five-course begins with a reception featuring herbed carpaccio and olive croustade, zesty garlic shrimp in crisp tortilla and sesame-fried sugar snaps with lemon aioli.

The following courses include citrus marinated mahi-mahi over an heirloom tomato and avocado salad; mushroom and feta-stuffed phyllo, red pepper coulis and olive oil laced arugula; roast shallot and short rib in Creole tomato jus with crisp polenta; and hazelnut flan with cinnamon churro. Each course will be paired with a speciall selected Spanish wine.

Seating starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Apple Annie’s at Seville Quarter. The cost is $55 plus tax and gratuity, and Spanish attire is encouraged. Reservations are required. To secure your space, or for more information, call 434-6211, or email nancy@rosies. com.

The weekend fun continues with a Chupinazo, or opening celebration, during Friday’s Gallery Night, including a procession honoring San Fermin, the patron saint of Pamplona, Spain, where they run with REAL bulls.
